I got two of these yesterday. Both are crude photoshops of Stephen Harper's head on a dog's body, with the slogans "This dog don't hunt" and "What's killing the grass(roots)?"

The return addresses are "delegates4democracy" (agathadulce@myway.com) and "Krista Porter" (kristaporter@myway.com). According to the Received headers, they came from IP 64.231.254.10, which resolves to "HSE-Montreal-ppp136971.qc.sympatico.ca". I've also got the message ID and anti-abuse headers:

Message-Id: <20050314183841.9D6A03A32@mprdmxin.myway.com>
X-AntiAbuse: ID = 5be482003b251b68100e1574c0df1564

Message-Id: <20050315015736.D1ECB39A3@mprdmxin.myway.com>
X-AntiAbuse: ID = 65c914c06c86dbb7ca230309adb876d1

Anyone out there who might be able to figure out who exactly send these? It's nice to see the anti-Harper side is so "professional"... Rolling Eyes

I have one word for you: Liberals

I suspect that this is the work of some Liberal strategists trying to divide and ultimately weaken the party at this weeks convention.

The Liberals are hoping for a huge bloodbath between the PC half and the Reform Alliance half of the party. This is nothing more than Liberals trying to make Harper lose the leadership vote.

It wouldn't be the first time Liberals have done this sort of thing. They play dirty.

It could be some conservatives who are annoyed with Harper but I don't think so. This smells of cheap Liberal war tactics.

Montreal, eh? Liberals, definitely.

Someone ought to check the delegates lists for "Agatha Dulce" and "Krista Porter". If found, they should be thrown out of the party.

Maybe some Liberal in the media sent it to themselves alla Dan Rather so they could write about a story that has no real foundation.

Who is this reporter, how did she get the picture?

The HSE-Montreal-ppp136971.qc.sympatico.ca would seem to indicate that this was sent out by someone in Montreal who uses sympatico as their ISP.

I wonder if spoofing the email address to the myway.com address violates their terms of service. Perhaps someone could check on that.

Actually, I think the myway.com part is valid. If you take a look at myway, you can access other webmail services through their portal. A trip through a couple of anon proxies, myway.com and then another webmail or just he myway mail would make it difficult for most people to trace. Unfortunately, it's just too easy to do this kind of crap now. A quick google will give you all the info you need to wash your tracks from the average search. Add in a public terminal somewhere and things start getting even more difficult.

Just take the emails as motivation to make sure Stephen gets an even higher approval rating than expected.

Come on now. They might be Liberals, but you think they would be stupid enough to use their real names on something like this?

But in any case, Agatha Dulce and Krista Porter do not exist on the delegate list anywhere in this country.

This is front and centre on bourque today with the photo which I will not post...

Criticism dogs Tory leader

By MARIA McCLINTOCK, Parliamentary Bureau

A doctored photo of Stephen Harper that has been e-mailed to Tory delegates.
Stephen Harper is a dog of a leader, according to a picture sent out to Conservative delegates who will vote on his leadership at the party's convention in Montreal. The doctored picture has Harper's head pasted on the body of a dog over the headline, "This Dog Don't Hunt," and was mass e-mailed to delegates yesterday.

It's believed to be the work of hard-core right-wingers in the party who fear the Tory boss is turning the party into "Liberal Lite."

"A lot of growling has resulted from its distribution. The regional organizers are in a tizzy and trying to get a muzzle on someone," one Ontario delegate said of the picture.

"Everybody is playing the blame game. We don't even know yet how they are going to run the vote or what/when they will announce the results."

Gerry Nicholls of the National Citizens Coalition, where Harper once worked, said there's "concern" among conservatives about the direction he's taking the party.

"A lot people who belong to the conservative party want the party to be a real small 'c' conservative alternative to the Liberal party," said Nicholls.

"There's some concern that the party is getting wishy-washy on certain issues."

Tom Thompson, riding association president for Ottawa-Centre, called the doctored photo "foolish" and political shenanigans.

"Everybody has got the right to send some stuff out but the vast majority of folks I talk to coast to coast ... are pleased with the way Stephen and the whole team have performed," said Thompson. "You're always going to have some fool out there who's going to try and throw stuff out such as that."

Harper's spokesman, Geoff Norquay, said he "wouldn't dignify this kind of silliness with a serious comment."

Who wrote this? - If your getting flak, you must be over the target.

My read on all this, is that the liberals didn't get the bump in poll numbers they where hoping for after their convention. That and the Dither's tag is still sticking much to their dismay.

For that matter, the jungle drums are still saying that the LPC is desparately trying to tag Harper with a moniker like the one dither's Martin got. The trouble is, just as this latest weak attempt shows, if its not spontaneous it won't stick. The dither's tag is doing more damage than the liberals want to admit.

Here's a tag for Harper that the liberal's should get used to.

Stephen Harper, Canada's next Prime Minister.
