Entropy Squared:
Entropy Squared is a creature of cyberspace. He was born February 25,
1999 at Free
Republic and was raised in the Free Republic Forum .
In early December, 2000 Entropy Squared met Connie Wilkins in
the
Free Republic Forum and at Connie's suggestion began collaborating on
the creation of Free Dominion
,
which went online January 6, 2001. The opening of The Event
Horizon was a part of Free Dominion’s website reorganization
launched October 13, 2001.
The Name:
The name, Entropy Squared, was designed to reflect the uncertainty of
our times.
Entropy is the amount of disorder in a system. It’s the reason things
fall apart, the reason a perpetual motion machine will never be built,
and the reason why there really is no free lunch. We perceive time as
progressing towards increased entropy or greater disorder. To
paraphrase Stephen Hawking, we see a cup fall from a table and break but
never see the pieces of a cup reassemble and leap onto a table.
The breakdown of the social structures which have given the western
world it’s liberty and prosperity seems to be proceeding at a faster
pace than would be accounted for by the normal entropy-like effects that
appear to be the destiny of mature societies.
The increase in disorder western societies are experiencing is having a
similar effect as would an increased rate of entropy. A greatly
increased rate of entropy, entropy squared, perhaps.
‘Entropy Squared’ refers to our apparent rush to chaos. Which also
explains the byline.
The Event Horizon:
The Event Horizon is Entropy Squared’s room in his new digs at
Free Dominion. It’s primarily an archive of written work. Like Free
Dominion it is destined to grow and evolve.
The Name:
An event horizon is the distance from a black hole where escape velocity equals the speed of light, the Einsteinian universe’s ultimate speed limit. Anything venturing beyond the event horizon is lost forever to the black hole at the centre.
The purpose of The Event Horizon is the preservation of the ideas and principles that have given western civilization its liberty and prosperity. It is a small line of defense against the black hole of contemporary liberalism.
